ANPP withdraws from Kogi LG poll

The All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) will not participate in participate in the July 26 local government elections in Kogi state.

This was the declaration of the state chairman of the party, Alhaji Faruk Idris, in Lokoja.\
Exchanging views with journalists, Idris said the party had lost confidence in the ability of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KSIEC) to conduct "a free, fair and credible election."
He called on the federal government to’’put in place a constitutional provision where State Independent Electoral Commissions will include members of all registered political parties.’’

The ANPP chairman pleaded with the Peoples Democratic Party ‘’to allow an atmosphere whereby democratic culture will prevail before the polls can take place in the interest of justice.’’
Idris urged ANPP members in the state to be law abiding during and after the exercise.
``We are sticking to our grounds and will not participate'', he said.

The Chairman expressed confidence in the judiciary in the state and called on it to continue to uphold the rule of law.

Mr Abraham Olaniran, chairman of the state Electoral Commission, had earliertold newsmen that the commission had concluded plans for the smooth conduct of the exercise.
Olaniran said ‘’logistic arrangements have been put inplace for the successful conduct of the polls.
Alhaji Onu Faruk, state leader of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) told newsmen that the 15 members had resolved to participate in the exercise.

He called on the PDP-led administration ``to ensure a successful local government election in the state.''
