Three new ministries for Adamawa

From: Emmanuel Bongnwi; Yola

In order to alleviate the suffering of the masses in terms of erratic power supply and create room for rapid development in the state capital, the Adamawa State Government has now established two new Ministries.

They are the Ministry of Energy, and the Ministry of Urban Planning.
While the ministry of Urban Planning is being carved out of the Ministry of Works and Housing, to stand as an entity, the Ministry of Energy will be directly under the Office of the Governor.

Governor Murtala H. Nyako revealed the new development during a stakeholders meeting at the Government House in Yola.

Justifying the creation of the two new ministries, the governor said ‘’ no significant industrial development can be achieved without electricity.’’

To rectify such an anomaly, he said, ‘’the Government has proposed to build a Hydro-Electric Dam at Mayo-Ine for the purpose of irrigation and electricity supply, while possibilities of partnering with an Energy Company to explore the upgrading of Kiri Dam to be able to produce Hydro-electricity, maintaining the normal irrigation service will be made.’’

Commenting on rural electrification programmes, Nyako said his administration ‘’is touching the lives of the people by providing them the basic amenities.’’

For example, he said, ’’In the last few months, government has provided seven villages with electricity and rehabilitation of transformers.’’

Beneficiaries of the projects, he said, included, Chikiti in Fufore Local Government, Dakli in Mayo Belwa, Gunda and Lokoro villages in Guyuk and Gudumiya, Hong Local Government Area. Others include Kala’a and Shiwa, Hong Local Government, Munduwa in Mubi Local Government, Wagga Mongoro and Wagga Liman in Madagali and rehabilitation of Mayo Belwa TDN and upgrading of transformer.

Nyako disclosed that the abandoned Yola North Modern Market in the state capital had finally been completed at the cost of N1, 429,453.92 waiting commissioning.
He said that his administration was determined to encourage development of small and medium scale enterprises through SMIES programmes and cooperatives.

Also speaking during the stakeholders forum the speaker, Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Barrister James Barka, assured that the law makers ‘’will support the programme of Nyako, calling on him to sustain the stakeholders meeting from time to time.’’

He advised the governor ‘’to maintain free flow of information between the Legislators and the Executives in order to bridge communication gap.’’

His Royal Highness, Hamman Bachama Asaph Zadok, who spoke on behalf of the state monarchs, at the occasion, commended the Governor for the laudable projects and promised loyalty of all traditional rulers in the state.
