SUPER Eagles striker,
Osaze Odemwingie, has revealed that he had long nursed a dream to play in
the glamorous English Premier League, which already features a glut of national
team colleagues like Nwankwo Kanu, Joseph Yobo and Yakubu Aiyegbeni.
But Odemwingie's desire to ply his trade in what some refer to as the new
mecca of European football seems to be evaporating by the day as no club has
made any offer and the transfer season is gradually winding up.
However, speaking in an interview with National Daily, the Lokomotiv of Russia
forward said he was still optimistic of landing a deal.
"For the past years when the windows are open there are always discussions,
my file is always on the table out there in England, yet it hasn't got to
a stage where they will make the efforts necessary for me to be there.
"Yes, in Europe, I like the Spanish league and the English league a lot.So,
I am looking forward to play one day in the biggest teams of those leagues.
"I'm working hard for it and I'll be waiting for that time. But today
I would be planning my career, I'll watch my contract, how many years and
I will make a move at the right time," said Odemwingie. The ex-Insurance
of Benin player, who ismone of the three overaged players included in the
Nigerian Olympic soccer squad for the Beijing Games, dispelled fears in some
quarters that he may be barred from going to the Far East by his Russian club.
"There is no problem with my going to the Olympics as far as my club
is concerned,"he stated."They understand that I'm a Nigerian international
and already they knew about my plan to play in the Olympics."
