Taiwo seeks Liverpool revenge with Marseille

By DIPO OKUBANJO

SUPER Eagles defender Taye Taiwo would be in the fray for Olympique Marseille as the French club attempts to avenge the humiliating defeat of last season at the hands of former champions Liverpool.

This is an intriguing game as Liverpool knocked out Olympique de Marseille out of the Champions League last year, after inflicting the heaviest home defeat for Marseille in European competition.

Liverpool will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the start they made to the group stage 12 months ago when they collected just a point from their opening three fixtures, which included a 1-0 home defeat by Marseille.
Pundits expect Liverpool to struggle in a game that comes right after a EPL game against Manchester United.
Though Marseille were at the weekend still in search of their first Ligue 1 victory and wished a victory would be a morale boost before hosting Liverpool in the Champions League three days later.

Coach Eric Gerets was expected to rest Ben Arfa on Saturday and save him for their Champions League opener against Liverpool on Tuesday.

"Against Liverpool we have a match that promise to be very intense but we're ready for that," midfielder Mathieu Valbuena told reporters.
