•Index drops 1.8per cent •Cap closes lower at N10.22t

THE All-Share Index dropped by 1.8per cent to close on Friday at 48, 73 8.15. The market capitalization of the 211 First -Tier equities closed lower at N 10.22 trillion.

Twenty - Two (22) stocks appreciated in price during the week, lower than the ninety - one (91) in the preceding week. Seventy (70) stocks depreciated in price during the week, higher than the eleven (11) in the preceding week. A turnover of 2.65 billion shares worth N50.3 billion in 44,357 deals was recorded in the week, in contrast to a total of 2.95 billion shares valued at N31.21 billion exchanged the previous week in 65,943 deals. The Banking subsector was the most active during the week (measured by turnover volume), with 1.8 billion shares worth N43 billion exchanged by investors in 20,059 deals. Volume in the Banking subsector was largely driven by activity in the shares of Afribank Nigeria Plc. Trading in the shares of the bank accounted for 1, 33 billion shares, representing 74.7per cent of the subsector's turnover.

The Insurance subsector, boosted by activity in the shares of Investment & Allied Assurance Plc, followed on the week's activity chart with a turnover of 479.72 million shares valued atN816.65 million in 6,879 deals.
Last week, the Banking subsector led on the activity chart and was followed by the Insurance subsector.
Two equity prices were adjusted for dividend as recommended by the Board of Directors. Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc was adjusted for an interim dividend of N0.45 per share. May & Baker Nigeria Plc was adjusted for dividend of N0 .40 per share.
