Basketball: Parents, kids yearn for more at Milo Clinic
PARTICIPANTS at the recently held 2008 edition of the Nestle Milo Basketball
Summer Clinic have pleaded for the continuation and expansion of the catch-them-young
project to keep youths positively engaged during their summer holidays.
Over one thousand kids and parents thronged the National Stadium Lagos venue
of the event.
Speaking during an interactive session between organisers and the parents,
Mrs. Akinbode Georgina, who came with her daughter all the way from Abeokuta,
Ogun State, commended Nestle Milo for taking adequate care not only of the
children but their parents and guardians throughout the one week duration
of the clinic.
“We give kudos to Nestle Milo as the only corporate organization which
has shown commitment to imparting basketball skills in the youth through their
unique grassroots programmes and we want them to continue to do more for the
good of the children and for the good of the game”, she said.
Responding,Nestlé’s Category Business Manager (Beverages), Mr.
Walter Okafor urged the parents to also play their own part by providing the
necessary equipment such as basketballs and cheap uprights so that the children
can continue their training both at home and in school throughout the year.
“This is the only way they can be able to improve enough to participate
in the annual Nestle Milo Secondary Schools Basketball Championship, the forum
from which many popular Nigerian national and international basketball stars
are first discovered”, he said.
