Militarised Testimonial

THE kind of security arrangement put in place by the Delta State government for the Austin Okocha Testimonial match played at the Warri Stadium would suggest to the unwary that the state was in a war situation.

Armoured cars and personnels armed to teeth littered all the roads leading to the stadium with hundreds of fans, apparently astounded by the spectacle, moved in measured steps to the arena.

It was later revealed that some militants had earlier in the day attempted to kidnapp the state Governor on the Warri-Sapele Express Road close to Oghara. That attempt was repelled but the militants did not beat a retreat without killing a security aide to the Governor.
