Taribo blasts NFA over development programme

By DIPO OKUBANJO

FORMER Super Eagles defender, Taribo West, has attributed the lack of equally good players as replacements for gifted ones quitting the national team to administrative ineptitude on the part of the football authorities in Nigeria.
Taribo's comments came in the wake of the deep concern shown by soccer fans following the decision of former Eagles captain Austin Okocha, to quit international football.

Not a few have lamented that it would be very difficult to find a replacement for the immensely skillful midfielder.
But Taribo, who revealed he has also quit football for good and embrace full-time evangelism, said that people are worried about Okocha's replacement because "our country lacks developmental system whereby you need to have younger players to understudy the ageing players."

He added:"When we were in the national team we preached this gospel for a long time. Thank God for(Clemence) Westerhof and (Johannes) Bonfrere who brought that structure to our football system such that(Stephen) Keshi left and we filled the vacuum.I think he(Okocha) left too early and most of the players who left did so because of bad management.
