I'm glad with what I've achieved –Okocha

By DIPO OKUBANJO

HAVING played for different clubs in Europe and the Middle East, including the Nigerian team in a career spanning more than almost two decades, Austin Okocha says he had to hang his boots because he is contented with his achievements during the period.

The former Super Eagles captain formally quit international football last Thursday when a Testimonial match was organised in his honour by the Delta State Government.

Speaking in an interview with National Daily, the two-time BBC African Footballer of the Year disclosed that he is happy with the laurels he won and continuig would amount to greed.

"I've always played and always love to play but at the same time I don't have to be greedy because I know it will end one day.I am glad with what I've achieved and I will move on with my life,"said Okocha.

The 34-year-old did not win any major trophy with Eintracht Frankfurt, Fenerbahce, Paris Saint Germain and Bolton, but won the 1994 Nations Cup and the 1996 Olympic soccer gold in Nigerian colours.

On the fate of the national team without him, Okocha retorted that "no man is an island. I've been there for a while now and I think it's the right time for me to leave.”
