•••As FG directs NIPOST to implement Stamp Duty Act
APART from the traditional functions of NIPOST to provide postal services,
federal government has directed NIPOST to ensure full implementation of the
re-invigorated Stamp Duty Act as contained in CAP 411 Law of the Federal Republic
of Nigeria, 1990 and Financial Regulations 617.
The Act requires individuals, institutions/organizations across the country
to affix adhesive postage stamp worth N 50 on every receipt, contract agreement
and payment voucher issued that is up to N 1000 and above.
To this effect, a top NIPOST Management Team is currently going round the
country to hotels, banks, business places, market associations, government
institutions and organizations to sensitize the general public on the Act.
The Area Postal Manager, NIPOST, Borno Territory, Malam Mundi Gani Mohammed
who disclosed this to newsmen in Maiduguri in an interactive session during
the 2008 NIPOST Customers Forum added that, the organization is presently
undergoing enormous transformation and re-organization as it hold sway for
unprecedented shift to modern technology in the Communication Industry in
joining the global postal services competitive environment.
Gain Mohammed revealed also that NIPOST has established Internet Café
facility at the Territorial headquarters rendering full Internet Café
services in repositioning Post offices, agencies and shops meet the ever changing
and increasing market environment of the society to make them stop and shop
places/centers for the public to transact both postal and technology driven
communication services such as EMS, telephone, email, fax, online JAMB, WAEC,
NECO registration and browsing.
With this development, he said, quality of mail services has remarkably improved
as over 80% of letters and parcels posted were delivered within 72 hours [3
days] nation wide as efforts were made to shorten processing time, new vehicles
and motorcycles were acquired for intra and inter-sate deliveries.
The Area Manager further appealed for more patronage and prompt payment of
boxes and PMBs renewal fees while giving awards and gifts to distinguished
NIPOST Customers and outstanding staff of the year, 2008.
