FG reaffirms promise on internet penetration

THE Information Technology Development Agency, an arm of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology has reaffirmed its plan to inculcate Information Technology into the educational curriculum beginning from primary.

Already, teachers in six geo-political zones are undergoing training on the use of science kits for training pupils primary science. Designed by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure NASENI, it aims to demystify science subjects usually regarded as difficult among young children and improve public awareness of science and technology.

The minister reasserted this at reception organized in her honour by the Agbarho Community in Ughelli Local Government Area of Delta State. She also added that the government will soon increase internet penetration in the country.

On ICT, Ekpiwhre said “it is redefining the way we do almost everything and it is already a tool for all strata of society. It is as much a tool for the President of any nation in the art of governance as it is for the housewife in her daily routine”.
She said when established, the internet centres would provide information on the internet super highway from which Nigerians would benefit enormously.

Ekpiwhre also added that the Information and Communication Technology penetration programme tagged “Catch Them Young” was intended to develop and implement a long term strategy plan for human capacity building in information technology in Nigeria.
She said the Programme is an “excellent incubator that will transform our children into Information Technology (IT) Scientists.
