Lawyer petitions IGP Okiro over illegal demolition
A Lagos based legal practitioner has petitioned the Inspector-General of
Police, Sir Mike Okiro, over what he described as illegal demolition of some
buildings by persons suspected to be thugs in Oreta village in Ikorodu area
of the state.
The lawyer, Yemi Ogundele in his petition dated June 13 2008, stated that
on June 8, 2008, Samuel Asolo, Raimi Yusuf, Mustapha Ojikutu and Murisiku
Agba led a band of thugs to invade an estate belonging to Jelili Kolawole
of Jellytex Nigeria Limited along Oreta village in Ikorodu.
The petitioner further disclosed that the thugs who were armed with dangerous
weapons like guns, cutlasses, cudgels and charms, stormed the estate and succeeded
in demolishing some buildings there, having scared away the residents, workers
and farmers in the village.
Many houses were demolished, while foundations were uprooted and thousands
of blocks were destroyed. The worst part of the incident is that when Kolawole
visited the site of the buildings, the suspected thugs stationed at the place
threatened to shoot him, while boasting that their sponsors have godfathers
in high places.
Barrister Ogundele therefore appealed to IGP Okiro to come to the rescue of
Kolawole before the suspected thugs succeed in assassinating him and eventually
dispossessing what rightfully belong to him.
