DPR to introduce new guidelines

DEPARTMENT of Petroleum Resources (DPR) is poised to introduce new guidelines for its operations as from next year.

This is to ensure the safety is observed in the citing of new filling stations in the country.

This was announced by Alhaji Mohammed Usman, the Zonal Operation Controller of the Department in Gombe.
He listed other requirements to be demanded by the DPR to include tank fabrication and accreditation permits.
Similarly, he said, the department would also request all ATC holders as well as filling station owners to inform its nearest office of any activity within 400 metres radius of their facility that seemed to be related to citing of a filling station.

He told participants at DPR's 2008 Annual Marketers' meeting that granting of licences whether new or renewal would be dependent upon the co-operation received towards minimizing violation of minimum distance requirement.
To this end, DPR would soon embark on enlightenment campaign in the electronic media aimed at creating adequate awareness among its marketers with regards to the requirement of the citing, construction and operation of filling stations.
