Mark canvasses for stable Parliament

SENATE President David Mark has advocated a stable legislature as a panacea for sustainable democracy in Nigeria and Africa, as a whole.

Speaking in Abuja, he said frequent changes in the legislature was capable of weakening the foundations of democracy.

He was addressing a delegation from the former Wukari Federation of Taraba State in his office.
He noted that it had been discovered from experiences at parliaments, worldwide, that ''the longer a legislator stays in the parliament, the better result for democracy and the society.''

He stressed the need for Nigerians to appreciate the role of legislature as a needed tripod for democracy, adding, “If a Senator or member of the House of Representatives is doing well, the constituents need not to effect any change but encourage him to do more”

Mark reiterated the resolve of the current Senate to work for the upliftment of the citizenry saying “We are committed to the service of our people; we shall be honest, accountable and transparent.”

Towards this end, he said, ''Senate will continue to support President Musa Yar'Adua's Seven Point Agenda.''
He was optimistic that the Vision 2020 remained a road map towards bringing Nigeria out of the economic woods.
