Dev Centre sinks N6.3m on power project

From UZOR EMMANUEL UZOR; Abakaliki

ISHIELU North Development Centre in Ishielu Local government Area of Ebonyi State, has embarked on electricity projects totaling N6,3million.

This was announced by the coordinator of the centre, Engr. Edward Odanwu in Abakaliki.
Odanwu, who is also the chairman of the local government, told journalists that part of the money was used to buy metal cross bar to replace the wooden cross bar for electric poles which had been causing serious havoc toe high tension wires in the area.

He said that since assuming office as the council boss, there were a lot of uncompleted projects, which he said that he had executed with vigor.

“Before now, the high tension wires were all on the ground following the decay of the wooden cross bar earlier used by the Power Holding Company if Nigeria. So what I did was to change all the cross bars and replaced them with iron ones.

“I also energized another transformer in one of the communities in Umuhuali which over the years has not been in use due the abandonment of by the people who installed it,'' he said.
Speaking during an official tour of the area, the state Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy matters and Rural Development, Chief Mathias Adum lauded the chairman and described him as ''a leader that knows the needs of the people.''

Apart from also saying that the projects which the chairman embarked upon was ''people-oriented,'' the commissioner advised other local government chairmen and coordinators of development centres in the state ''to emulate his good example.''

Speaking also during the tour, the chairman of Ishielu local government, Chief Onwa Ali Onwa said that the coordinators in the area would have done better ''but for the outbreak of the communal crisis between Ezza and Ezzilo.''

Onwa assured the commissioner that ''all developmental strategies have been put in place to give the people of Ishielu a face lift.'’
