Saraki puts 200 teachers on special assessment

…As Intervention Scheme expires

A ray of hope has emerged for 2000 teachers serving in Kwara state under the Federeal Government Intervention Scheme.

The teachers are now to be placed on ''s special assessment'' before their appointment could be properly streamlined.

Under the proposed re-structuring, the affected teachers would sit for an examination tagged: ''Teachers Quality Scheme.''

The new development was contained in an official statement released in Ilorin, which was signed by Mr. Mas'ud Adebimpe, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bukola Saraki.

The statement was in reaction to a media publication which had raised alarm about the fate of the affected teachers.
It debunked what it described as ''the wrong impression portrayed as if the appointment of the affected teachers was a joint arrangement between the Federal Government and Kwara State Government''

In putting the record straight, the statement said ''the teachers were solely employed by the Federal Government and deployed to the State under a Federal Government Intervention Scheme.''

The scheme, it said, was to last for two years in the first instance ''and no where in their letters of appointment was it stated that the state would absorb them automatically after the two-year tenure.”
