Journalists walk out on PDP chairman

•Ogbulafor apologies

From CHUKS EHIRIM; Abuja

NATIONAL Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Vincent Eze Ogbulafor, had a shock of his life, when journalists covering his party's National headquarters in Abuja, stagged a walk out from a scheduled press conference.

The journalists who were invited for a press briefing by the PDP National Chairman, at 12 noon had waited for one and a half hours without Ogbulafor coming to address them.

At exactly 1.30pm, they took a unanimous decision to ''walk away from the Wadata Plaza,'' leaving numerous personal assistants of the PDP Chairman and other National officers bewildered.

The party functionaries intervened, begging the media men to have a rethink but all their pleas fell on deaf ears as they refused bluntly to return to the Conference Hall, where Ogbulafor was already seated.

It was however, the direct intervention of Professor Fred Onyeoziri, the Political Adviser to the party's national chairman that saved the day.

The journalists mellowed down when they saw the professor who was once the Chairman of the Editorial Board of the defunct post Express Newspapers, joining the horde of others begging them to sheath their swords.
They deferred to Onyeoziri but on the condition that they would be allowed to tell the PDP chairman how they felt on the frequent occurrence of keeping them waiting hours on end by the party officials each time they had anything to do with the media in Abuja .

This they (Journalists) did when eventually they went in to cover the press conference by Ogbulafor.
But the PDP Chairman himself was equally apologetic there-after: “I want to once again to apologise for the lateness. As I explained to you, the National Working Committee (NWC) had an appointment for today which had to be responded to. We also know that as a friend you have to bear with us, you will be patient enough to share with us. However, we once again apologise and we hope you have taken it,” he said.
