From: SADIQ ABUBAKAR, Maiduguri
GOVERNOR Ali Modu Sheriff of Borno State has announced that his government
will build 39,000 Units of Housing Estate that will accommodate all the 39,000
state civil servants on the payroll of the state government in the next three
years of his administration.
He has also directed that 5 Units out of the already commissioned 20 Units
Housing Estates constructed by each of the 27 LGCs of the state under his
administration last year should be allocated to teachers in their council
Another five Units out of the 20 Units should also be allocated to Medical
Doctors in their respective 27 LGCs, he said.
The governor made this known at Gongulong Village in Jere LGC of Borno State
while commissioning 20 Units Housing Estate constructed by Jere LGC of Borno
State to mark his 5th Democracy Day. He said, formidable criteria has been
adopted for the distribution of all the 1, 232 Units of the newly constructed
and commissioned housing estates by the state government located along Jos
Road at the State Capital, Maiduguri.
According to him, the houses have already been allocated on owner-occupier
basis to individuals, organizations and associations/unions that have no allocation
at the 202 and 203 housing estates located along Bama Road, Maiduguri or already
have accommodation in the state capital.
He however warned that any beneficiary of the 777 and 555 housing estates
that fails to immediately occupy his/her and its house within 30 days as stipulated
will have his/her and its allocation revoked as well reallocated to someone
else. The Governor further explained that the reason why the houses were not
allocated earlier than now was due to the fact that a standing committee was
constituted to ensure smooth and fair allocation of the houses to only those
who don't have accommodation as well to curtail a repeat of double allocation
to individuals and organizations as experienced during the 202 and 203 housing
estates allocation by the immediate past administration.
The Governor also assured that his government will continue to embark on more
housing programmes that will ensure that every civil servant in the state
owns a house before the end of his second tenure in office.
